 | How often should I expect to get updates of FASB, AICPA, and GASB reference material? The frequency of updates for this reference material is contingent on the standard-setting bodies and when they revise and distribute changes to their materials. We can only update material that has, in fact, changed.
That said, we commit to update the material when we get revisions from the standard-setting bodies up to the following number of times per year—
FASB—Up to 4 times per year AICPA— Up to 4 times per year GASB—Up to 2 times per year
For both the FASB and the AICPA materials, we typically receive file updates from those organizations about 3 times a year. As a result, it is possible that the material being added or changed could be 4 or 5 months old by the time you get it.
For example, if we last updated a product in early March and a pronouncement was issued in late March, it is likely that the pronouncement will not be in your hands until July (since it would probably miss the production cutoff for March).
With the delayed effective dates of many accounting and auditing pronouncements, it is unlikely that these timing issues would negatively impact research of a current issue.
Both the FASB and AICPA offer loose-leaf subscriptions that provide printed updates soon after changes are finalized. If timing becomes a serious issue for you, you may wish to supplement your electronic version with one of the loose-leaf services. |

 | Why don't I get the CD-ROM version of my book at the same time I receive my print version? The primary reason is that each print book is printed as soon as the production of that particular book is finished. The printing and distribution doesn't depend on the timing of other books.
As soon as a particular book is printed, we immediately ship it to you.
For CDs, we often have several titles updating on a CD in any given month. As a result, we must wait until all of the books are complete before the CD can be manufactured and any of the CDs are delivered to you.
For example, a CD manufactured on the 30th of the month might include titles that were finished on the 5th of the month all the way up to those finished on the 25th of the month. In some cases, that means that a CD version can follow a print book by as much as 3 to 4 weeks.
If you own both versions and the timing difference causes major confusion to your staff (e.g., they’re not sure which version to use), you might consider waiting to use either version until you have both versions in hand.
We constantly strive to ensure that both the print and CD versions are delivered to you well in advance of common critical dates for the particular topic. |
